If the airplane is out of rig, and flying in as slip, then the pressures
on
the wings will bve different, and cause the problem...

This is often caused by a "frozen" belcrank" in the rudder system...See
Ercoupe Service Memo # 63 on lubrication; and Alon Service Bulletin #14 on

replacement of the bushing; and alternate material (nylon instead of
bakelite), used in Alon Bulletin...Service Memorandum #1. Effective S/N 1

thru 5714 inclusive.

My coupe's bushing had been replaced with the nylon bushing, but when I
got
yhe coupe, the rudder system was locked. Replacement of the locked bushing

fixed it.

Even tho the rudders do move, when checked ( tying the tail down, so the
nose
wheel can turn), if the bushing is tight, the ruddders will not return to
their proper trailing position when in flight, if the bushiong is tight,
restricting the movement. This leaves the Coupe in a skid...potentially
causing the fuel flow problem, and also slowing down the coupe bya bout 5
mph
or so, depending on how tight the bushing is...

REgards,

Harry
