Thanks to all who responded to my question about N-numbers. You guys

are great and its wonderful to have a neat online community like
this!

I've been having so much fun (well lots of work too and many
frustrations along the way) "restoring" my Coupe that I'm even
entertaining thoughts of making an experimental category Coupe in the

     future.

I know this has been hashed before but can't recall anything definite

coming out of the conversation. Has anybody successfully modified a
Coupe to fall into the experimental category ?

I chatted at length with a gentleman who put a Mazda rotary in his
Grumman Tiger (might have been a Cheetah, its been a little while)
and
he said that the FAA guy in his region had a big long list of items
that could be changed and each one had a percentage assigned to it. I

guess he only needed to add up to over 50% to be considered an
experimental. He ended up using parts from various planes and
along
with a new panel and engine was like 70% modified. This easily
qualified him in the experimental class.

Anybody heard of this type of inspection? Is it common to the FAA or

     just to this guy's region?

IMVHO the only thing the Coupe lacks is more power and climb. With
a
little larger water cooled engine (say 120 hp) and some nice fairing
of the engine cowl, gear, etc. you would really have a sweet climbing

and cruising bird plus keep all the WONDERFUL characteristics Coupes
     are famous for.

Anyway, a long ways off, have to get my four-place flying first, but
I
was just wondering what's been done.

     Keep em flying!
