Hello NW Coupers.

As Ron has mentioned, we're going to raise some tails
in July. I have made up some tooling to allow compression
of the shock donuts for removal and installation of the snap
ring. 09H is still sitting behind my garage so I pulled a shock
off, removed and replaced a snap ring and the tooling works. :-)

Ron has contacted our AI and Don will be there to make it legal.

Ron's estimate of 1/2 hour might be a "bit" optimistic. IF everything
goes just right, then 1/2 hour might do it.

What is needed to do the job??

You will need the do-nuts themselves. You will need new
seals for the shocks. If original, then the two o-rings
or the automotive type cups if they have been modified. A search
of the logs "Should" show if the seals have been modified. I found
the cup type seals in 09H with no log book entry.

If your clevis bolts that fasten the shocks at the bottom are
garbage, then also that hardware. If the rectangular snubber
blocks that limit the maximum compression of the shock are
bad then those plus the attaching hardware if that is garbage.

Skyport will have all the stuff and they will walk you through
the ordering process.

I'll bring some 5606 hyd. fluid, some silicone brake fluid
for the modified seal shocks and cotter keys.

Oh-- maybe a couple of blank 337 forms, I don't know if
Don will bring any.

The only thing I won't be prepared to do is install the
automotive seals in a strut that hasn't been previously
modified. This involves drilling and tapping a larger hole
in the bottom of the strut. I just don't think I could do
this and get the hole concentric and true with the strut in
the plane. I would like to chuck it in a lath at best or a
drill press at worst for this.

Should you wish to participate, please call me or
contact me via e-mail if there are any questions.

Ron mentioned jacks. I have one portable jack
with a pin welded on. Ron has one, and I have a couple
of floor jacks I can get out there, so we should be OK there.

I mentioned to Ron that I have to work July 4th through
the weekend of the 9th. This shouldn't be a factor since
Arlington would take up everyone's interest anyway.

Cheers:

Paul
