The "most legal" is the one in your Maintenance Manual, which I know you
must be using if you are doing your own maintenance.

"Light Plane Maintenance" just published an article on this: Shell #5
for wheel bearings (it has a three year shelf life - my mechanic always
says "just use mine." Remember that there is an art to proper wheel
bearing care -clean them well and dry but DO NOT spin them while dry!
Pack them until you are SURE there are no voids. Your hands will be
black for days as the mark of a job well done.
Use Shell #6 for your grease gun. I use auto Lithium-base grease with my
mechanic's blessing.

Date, Tach time (and time a specific part has been in service if
appropriate), a simple description such as "greased knee joints and nose
gear scissors," my signature and PP license number. If you are
replacing parts, it is also appropriate to say "replaced Frebus Pin
#3410F with improved Frebus Pin #3410G, torqued bolt per AC43-13 Chapter
XX" - You then have a record for that expensive Frebus Pin when you sell
the plane and the FAA will be very happy (if they ever get involved)
because you seem to be keeping good records.
