Check to insure that the switch is indeed a normal switch, and not a circuit breaker switch. If it is a circuit breaker switch it will have a number on the end of the toggle, or possible a little bead like projection on the end of the toggle. If unmarked, inspection of the switch body itself will determine if it is a circuit breaker.
If it is indeed a circuit breaker, put an ammeter in series with the fuel pump to find out if it is drawing excessive current. If the current draw is normal, replace the switch. If abnormal, repair or replace the fuel pump.
