What model?  The 415C with the C75/85 used a generator unless your 
system has been upgraded through 337 (in which case the answer can only 
be found in the 337 paperwork).

The typical C75/85-F used a 12 or 20A generator and a mechanical voltage 
regualtor.  There is a very good article on troubleshooting it on the
