I have been of the opinion that Alon used several different latching
mechanisms during there four years of production. This opinion was
verified
at the convention. I saw no less than three different forward latches when
there were only six Alons on the airport. [1] Half-moon shaped solid
brackes that had tapered holes drilled into them to recieve mail cones
mounted to the canopy.
[2] Mine has a folding bracket mounted to the silding canopy. This acts as
a
"cam lock" when the end is attached to a small "stud" mounted to the bar
next to the plastic interior trim. [3] Nothing at all in the front and
only
the two latches in the rear.
Of all the ones I saw, I like mine the best. It is really solid and does
not leak any air. The arms are chrome-plated and look good. Since they
are
attached to the canopy, there is nothing attached to the forward
windishield
brace.
However, I could use a couple of the "Lunch box" type rear latches. Mine
seem to very poor replacements from the originals I saw on the other
planes.
