Hi, In answer to Ed's request on special equpiment for WAAS and LAAS. GPS If you go the IFR route you will need special equipment to copy the satellite on both WAAS and LAAS. Wide angle augmenting system and Local area augmenting system. The gps receivers have not been approved as yet for either sysyem. Takes a long time........so IFR is still way off...but when it is approved the altitude will be very reliable to use with cat 1-2-3 landings.. Hand helds will never be able to takle advantage of the waas laas signals.
They will give you what you have now and nothing more. You will have to live with the altitude error......So don't get rid of your loran yet. I am off to Oshkosh tues and will try to get more info on this subject.
