I think the discussions on the police and where our country is headed
has
been healthy and informative. As a senior citizen, who was born in the
depression in a three room farm house with a well and a path (Yes, I said
PATH, not BATH) I have seen a lot of changes in our society. Some have
been
for the good, and unfortunately, much has been bad.
During my teenage years, I was a free spirit. I gave my mom (divorced
parents) more trouble than she ever deserved. Most of us can probably say
the same thing. However, she was a GREAT woman and dished out the
disipline
when it was in order. TODAY SHE WOULD BE PLACED IN JAIL FOR THE WAY SHE
RAISED US THREE KIDS! Today, most people do not want to take
responsibility
for their actions. This in my mind sets a very bad precedent. The more you
get away with, the more you want to get away with. Our president, should
be
the example for for this country. Unfortunately, he leads the list in
liars, cheats, dishonesty and refuses to take the responsibility for his
actions. There is NOT ONE job out there in Government, Military or the
private sector that the BOTH of them would not be removed from the
premisis
IMMEDIATELY for what they did. Only the president can do such a thing and
shruge it off.
This filters down through the people of our nation. Lieing is OK. The
guy
that sold a member of this group a Coupe that was less than right, is OK.
The AP and IA who signed it off knowing it was not right, That is OK. The
people who broke into the Couper's hangar and stole some of his airplane,
that is OK. Well, I am sorry, but I do not agree with the way our society
is
headed. The LAWYERS of this country used to be looked upon as
"Statesmen".
They were the ones that established the laws, and created a system of
justice that would punish those who broke those laws. Unfortunately, some
(not all thank goodness) lawyers are very liberal. They will find any
excuse to get a criminal off the hook for what he/she has done. The
police,
who are being paid with OUR TAX MONEY have gotten to the point that many
have virtually turned their heads away, knowing the lawbreaker will be
back
on the street in a few days. They simply say, "Why Bother!"
Yes, there are good and bad in EVERY profession. I spent most of my
life
in the printing trade. Yes, I know some printers who got picked up for
printing money. For the most part, I have found the aviation people to be
friendly and honest. Again, there are some bad ones here too. I
purchased
a NEW Argus GPS on E-bay from a EAA member in Georgia for $1500. When it
arrived, I found it was 9 years old and needed a $500 upgrade to be legal.
I
will not bore you with the profanity he returned on my e-mail. I printerd
it
all out for an attorney. Then I e-mailed my stepson in Georgia and asked
him
if he knew a good and honest lawyer. Fortunately for me, he knew one who
also flew his own plane. It is important to note that I was smart enough
to
know (and I am sure the seller did too) that if I got a Delaware lawyer,
it
would NOT MEAN A THING! I needed a lawyer in the state the seller
resided.
THAT GOT HIM! I told my lawyer in Georgia that the seller would be
responsible for any legal bills that were incurred in the litigation. The
lawyer said, "No problem". I still have a copy of his letter to the
seller.
All I can tell you is this, "If I got that letter in the mail, I would
settle in a minute!" Selling on E-bay can involved him in wire fraud and
the Rico act, among other things. I got my full refund in ten days and he
had to pay my lawyer $500.00 to get his Argus GPS back.
No, it is not easy for me today knowing a fellow EAA member is like
that.
To retain our sanity in this crazy world, we must accept the fact that
there
are a LOT of people out there that are NOT HONEST. (from the President on
down). We must take action when someone has taken advantage of us. If
they
are allowed to continue in their lies, deception and illegal activities,
then WE are to blame.
I ask you, do not put those down who have vented their feelings in the
injustice that our fellow Coupers were involved in. Maybe this
frustration
will someday expand to the point that things will turn around. We
certainly
cannot continue on this path or as one member said, " Martial Law will
become a way of life." (heaven forbid).
Thanks for allowing me the right of "Freedom of speech", even if you
disagree with me.
