He also said that you have to be careful when re-installing the pump because he's seen cases where a pilot was assisting or doing his own maintenance and when inserting the pump arm back into the case it's possible to get the arm under the cam instead of over it and when the pump bolts are tightened and the engine turns over the arm will break (or at least crack) and the parts fall into the engine and cause 'mucho' problems. He didn't say so, but I suppose it could also crack the mount and cost even more 'big bucks'. I think it's cheaper to use the expensive 'correct' pump and just remember that the pump is much cheaper than an engine. (Or possibly even the plane.) It's amazing how much of our automotive stuff is being made in Tiawan, Hong Kong and now even China. I don't know about the rest of you, but I certaiinly don't want any of that junk on my plane. Just my $0.02 worth.
