Forwarded for Bob Condon who accidentally hit reply and sent the message
to me. (I've done that a dozen times -- I can relate, Bob.)

OK, I'll take that challenge.

At this time, the best engine combination is probably a C-85 Crankcase
with an O-200 crankshaft.

Advantages:
1. Does not need an STC for the airframe.
2. Uses the C-85 prop.
3. Does not need an electric fuel pump and related changes.
4. Creates an engine with the same displacement as an O-200, operating
at a bit lower RPM.
5. Does not need the timing retarded to the O-200 spec.
Probably generates more power than the O-200.
6. O-200 crankshafts are half the cost of a C-85 shaft.
7. Most O-200s have spent their lives in trainers and have 4000+ hours
on them.
8. The FAA does not consider the change to increase the power of the
engine. No recertification of the airframe will be necessary.

Disadvantages:
1 You can't say your plane has an O-200 in it.

Good luck with your engine search. You may find another coupe with a
good engine and prop to use as a donor to build your plane. My I/A
found one while looking at a piece of land that was offered as being a
farm with airstrip. I think I recall that the owner still thought that
the plane was worth a lot of money even though it hadn't flown in many
years. It is located in Massachusetts if you want to look into it.
