FWIW,

I have both (belt & suspenders kind of guy)

I have a Dave Clark PTT switch velcroed to the yoke (they replaced it
free of cherge when I busted it by forgetting to pull the plug when I
moved the airplane - I even admitted it was my fault - SOP for Dave
Clark from what I hear) and when I added the PS-1000 intercom I put
another panel mounted PTT switch in parallel near the headphone jacks.
Since I do not have a PTT mike I wanted to make sure I could key the
radio even if one of the PTT broke.

Since you can put as many PTT switches in parallel as you want there is
no reason not to have more than one. Since w/o a working PTT switch
there is no way to talk to ATC there is every reason to have more than
one. (I carry two headsets so I do have a backup mike if one goes bad).

However I have never needed to use the panel mounted one. I do test it
every so often.
