----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- well, today I primed the inside of my cabin and center section. Now I'm ready for new floorboards and interior.
One has a lot of things to think about when painting every square inch of the center section..... and the one thing that struck me was how well built the center of an Ercoupe is. Then, coupled with the stout wing structure- I think that we could safely fly with much more horsepower. For the last 2 years my C model has been a part of our A&P college booth at the Golden West fly-in. This last year, when I taxied up to our booth and shut down the engine a guy came running over to me and said "that's the next airplane I want to do a turbine conversion to." He showed me a little tiny turbine engine with a gearbox and variable pitch prop. The engine made about 150 hp, and he has already put one in a Luscombe. They clipped the wings on the Luscombe and that thing did 170mph, with a 5000 fpm climb! They lost the airplane when the fuel system failed the engine, and the clipped wings proved to be a mistake- it ended up smashed up in the emergency landing. So- he offered me the engine and gearbox for 14K. I think that our plane would be an excellent choice for a turbine conversion. You would have to have the 30 gallon tanks though, turbines suck a lot of JP4 per hr. Well, sounds like the outside dimensions of the wheels is 99 inches. My garage door frame is only 96 exactly. jan z 415G __________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from this list please send mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___________________________________________________________ T O P I C A The Email You Want. http://www.topica.com/t/16 Newsletters, Tips and Discussions on Your Favorite Topics
