"Skyport instructions recommend ..." If this kit comes with an STC then you have to install it as instructed. You cannot arbitrarily change the installation and have the paperwork apply. OTOH if you want to mount it somewhere else make sure your local FSDO will sign off on the 337 BEFORE you cut metal. They could (if they are in a bad mood) require a structural analysis of the wing with a different mounting location before approving it (or even refuse to approve it and make you rebuild the wing to original design).
