I think you will make a big mistake to try and restore that if money is
the
concern. An Ercoupe fuselage is really a pretty cheap thing to buy. The
best way to get a good coupe is just to buy one outright. It does not
matter
if you do all the labor yourself, it will still cost more. Thus far I
have
got $17,000 in mine - I have done all the labor working on it - and it is
still worse than ones I've seen for $12,000 or so. Anybody who sells you
a
good Ercoupe for under $20,000 is probably losing big money. I have
learned the hard way that, basically, as far as airplanes are concerned,
you
can't have one unless your financial situation is pretty darn good, or you
are just a plain crazy flying fool who'll fly anything just to get up
there.
It's either more money or more risk. You have to have either a lot of
free
cash or free time. I have the same problem coming on in mine on the
center. It is not to that point but those flush rivets are really not too
good. Both the ones on the center section and on the tail pieces are prone
to breaking and the heads stay attached, often fooling you into thinking
all
is well! The funny thing on that center section is that it can look great
forward of the rear spar and yet everything from the back side of that
spar
and aft can be real crap-ola. Glen Ward
