I have a Garmin III Pilot GPS and have found a problem that might be of
interest. After loading the version 2.06 upgrade of the software I
found that when the backlight was turned up to the highest level, the
receiver would loose the satellite signals and I received a message
"poor GPS coverage". Of course this meant that it was inoperable.
After turning the backlight off it would again aquire the satellites and
operate properly. I called Garmin and was advised that the early units
had a different "board" and yes this was a problem. I have owned this
unit for over THREE years. I was given an RMA number and told to
return the unit to Garmin for Warranty repairs. I have always enjoyed
flying with the Garmin III pilot and really like it more now. Great
service.
