Harry,

Was that a YO-55 at College Park? According to the Smithsonian there was
only one YO-55.

I have a photocopy of the "Individual Airvcraft History Card" on 41-18875.
It was procured on February 26, 1941 and was flown to Wright Field shortly
after. On March 13, 1941 it went to Post Field, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. There
it was declared "Class 26" (Instructional Airframe) on October 6, 1941.
Near the bottom of the page is says "Scrapped from records during 1942". I
assume that means it no longer exists. I wrote to Fort Sill, as well as
the U.S. Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker, but never heard anything
back from either.

I also have a photocopy of a picture of 41-18875, taken at Post Field on
April 24, 1942. It is still in it's original "civilian" paint and,
according to what I've been able to fond out, was never repainted. At the
time the picture was taken it still carried it's civil registration
number, NC-28655.

The letter I received from the Smithsonian states that one other Ercoupe
415 (NX-15692) was evaluated at Wright Feild but was not "acquired" by the
USAAC.

I am sure what info I have on the YO-55 is not complete, and may contain
errors. If anyone has more information I would be very interested in it.
I went to the College Park "Homecoming" web site. (
http://www.avialantic.com/ercoupe/photo4.html ) It has a picture of the
plane I think you're refering too. I remember seeing this plane in the
warbird section at Oshkosh last year (1999). As I recall it was listed as
an EC-13 (or something like that). The placard stated that there were
originally only 3 of these and that this was the last one. I remember
being a little more than envious because, being a Warbird member and
wanting to own a "real" warbird, this would be a perfect fit. And knowing
it's the only surviving one means my chances are slim.
