Jan Z:

I see you are paining over a new paint job. I am doing the same thing
right now. The right colour and design can make or break the finished
product. The first coupe I had was polished, with yellow wings and
tail, with black trim. Everybody loved it. If you would like, I could
e-mail you a picture of the plane. I spent many hours working out what
I though was just the right combination of colour and design, and was
very pleased with the result.

The 415-C I have now was painted in much the same layout, only it was in
light and dark green, with white lightning on the side. It also looked
very sharp. That was fourteen years ago, and I just bought the plane
back from the fellow I sold it to thirteen years ago. The plane is in
very good condition, but the paint was getting tired. I've got the
wings off and it's home in my shop. The paint is all off (except on the
fabric wings). I was going to do it the same colour again, but got
thinking about it.

As of now, it's going camouflage!! Yes, that's right, a mid tan with a
medium dark muddy green. The undersides will be a very light grey. The
spinner, wing leading edge, and rudder leading edges will be bright
yellow. A wide white band around the fusalage in front of the tail, and
large white letters on either side of the large, red, white, and blue
rondels which are also outlined in yellow. Same rondels on the wings,
red and white and blue bars on front half of the rudder about ten inches
tall. The rear of the rudders are three inch horizontal black and
white stripes. I also hope to polish the prop. The fairings will be
left off the main gear, and the gear will be silver (I've flown with
these off and it makes no noticeable difference). The upper engine
cowling from the windshield to the nose will be flat black.

I know this may sound like a hodge-podge of colour, but I have a good
sized book on comouflage, and the paint scheme is similar to that used
on the British Spitfire. All I'm lacking is about 1200 HP. If nothing
else, it should be good for a few laughs or draw a little anti-aircraft
fire.
