Wow! I mean, what else can I say but......wow! Georgia, this might make a
good
story for the "I Learned About Flying..." column in Flying magazine. You
should
consider it.

Being a SP myself I still have some concerns about clouds. I've got a
couple
hours "under the hood", and it's confirmed in me the trust one must have
in
their instruments, but that still can't come close to actually being
there.

I did a dual x-country to Iowa City IA a couple summers ago and on the way
back,
cruising a 5500MSL, it looked like the clouds below us were closing up. I
couldn't
see the surface any where except straight down from time to time. So I
decided
to make a turning decent between the clouds and get underneath while I
could.

I dropped to 2500ft and flew the rest of the way home at that altitude. It
was
much bumpier down there and, as it turns out, the clouds never did fully
close
up, but I still think I made the right decision. If they had, I might
still be
up there.
