Wow! I mean, what else can I say but......wow! Georgia, this might make a good story for the "I Learned About Flying..." column in Flying magazine. You should consider it. Being a SP myself I still have some concerns about clouds. I've got a couple hours "under the hood", and it's confirmed in me the trust one must have in their instruments, but that still can't come close to actually being there. I did a dual x-country to Iowa City IA a couple summers ago and on the way back, cruising a 5500MSL, it looked like the clouds below us were closing up. I couldn't see the surface any where except straight down from time to time. So I decided to make a turning decent between the clouds and get underneath while I could. I dropped to 2500ft and flew the rest of the way home at that altitude. It was much bumpier down there and, as it turns out, the clouds never did fully close up, but I still think I made the right decision. If they had, I might still be up there.
