Besides my fancy-shmancy Airmap 300, I keep a Garmin GPS 12 in the
airplane for back-up. One of the irritations of the DB-less GPS systems
is that you can't punch in an airport and go there. I've tried a couple
of free-ware programs, and found them to be okay... ...but someone
finally, for all of $15, has produced an ass-kicking GPS support program.

http://www.topografix.com is the source of this little bargain. Their
databases
have every imaginable thing on the topo maps, including all the airports.
You
load them state by state.

Using the program, you can dump the waypoints out of your GPS, upload
selected
sets of waypoints back in, and program in routes. Slick!

I wish they would have used the FAA identifiers to name the airport
waypoints.
And you still don't have VOR waypoints, but you can easily load them and
share them with friends. Nor are the intersections there. Again, load them
and share the files (you can share waypoints with files). Or better yet,
maybe
we can persuade the developers of PanTerra to add the FAA CD information
about VORs, NDBs, and Intersections to the database.

Anyway, I like this thing, it's worth the price you pay for it.
