Unfortunately, this is the kind of thing where a lot of "do it yourself"
aircraft owners run aground. Aircraft batteries are specially designed, both
in the case and the caps, to prevent acid from escaping in turbulent air,
negative G maneuvers or nose-overs. So, aside from giving your insurance
company a way to avoid a payoff, and the feds a reason to ground you, there's
a practical aspect as well.
