I haven't posted any of my restoration log pages in a while, I know a
couple of you said you were interested in the progress so, here are pages
5 and 6
10/23/00- 1. continued stripping paint- fuselage completely done!
11/1/00 1. installed all 3 gear, engine mount painted
11/4/00 1. Hung engine back on plane with new mounting hardware and
rubber
2. began planning out the new instrument panel
arrangement
3. made new brake hose for left main, right to follow
11/\6/00 1. Began making new instrument panel. Did layout
2. bought 3 1/8 and 2 1/8 hole saws for $37.00 dollars
11/9/00 1. Continued cutouts on new instrument panel
11/11/00 1. Found leak on bottom of forward fuel tank. Will remove for
welding.
11/12/00 1. Removed forward fuel tank. Found leak to be at fuel valve
attach fitting seal. Rivets had rusted away, and the seal let go
when I twisted the valve.
2. Cleaned up valve attach fitting and tank surface, rivet holes
are OK
3. Instrument panel holes all drilled, just need to drill screw
holes for
the big instruments
11/13/00 1. Located PRO-SEAL at Fresno Jet Center, they also have Cherry
max rivets
2. Will purchase for re-sealing tank 37.00 for both
3. Removed old Whelen rotating beacon, decided on newer
style Whelen unit that is a flasher with red lens.
11/15/00 1. Purchased 3 Potter & Brumfield C/B switches. 5 amp for navs,
5 amp for new Whelen anti-collision flasher, 15 amp for
land/taxi lights75.00
2. Dropped off baggage compartment side panel templates
at Colin Bros upholstery shop, paid $50.00 for 2 side
panels.
11/18/00 1. Purchased rivet gun from Orchard Supply- 12.99
2. Installed Sealant, and cherrymax rivets.
11/19/00 1. removed corrosion from forward fuel tank. Tank ready to
reinstall
2. Trimmed firewall upholstery panel to fit around fresh
air vent
and park brake mechanism
3. Disassembled aileron cables at control horn to
inspect. Cleaned cables and horn, both look good. Part
number horn is newer part number , 415-52137. Cable
re-inspection 100 hr does not apply.
4. Began removing old wiring.
11/22/00 1. Cleaned up fuel primer, installed new orings
2. Got new ammeter, 0-30-0, installed in panel $21.00
from

3. ordered black wrinkle paint from spruce for instrument
panel
11/24/00 1. Got firewall upholstery panel back, had Colin Bros. attach
binding to Friday spots where I had cut holes for park
brake, etc. Side panels not ready yet
2. Univair sent the last knee joint washer from backorder
11/27/00 1. Began installing new knee joint washers and bushings
2. New bushings are tight fit- will need some work- one
got stuck
11/29/00 1. Installed bushing and washers in right gear, after having to
fix the threads on the bolt. $40.00
2. installed wheel and brake on right side
3. made new brake hose for right side
12/4/00 1. Took instrument panel to Blast-Tech for wrinkle finish
2. Removed and cleaned brake lines located at wing spar
3. picked up NAS3-A1 carb gasket kit from Fresno
Airparts- $15.00
12/6/00 1. Picked up instrument panel $55.00
2. installed a few things on the new panel
12/9/00 1. Removed brake lines for cleaning and painting
12/11/00 1. Removed master cylinder for replacement of orings
2. Installed new orings in master cylinder
12/13/00 1. bought 2 new Bendix mag coils from Fresno airparts
AB-357164-1 for $95.00
12/15/00 1. purchased a master switch solenoid from Fresno Jet. Removed
old style master switch and installed solenoid for
battery power through the starter switch and to
the bus $25.00
12/23/00 1. began stripping paint from fuel tanks.
2. stripped tailcone
3. decision was made to polish the fuselage and paint
wings yellow.
4. began prepping the fuselage for polish
12/28/00 1. purchase some Nuvite polish from New York- miracle working
polish I saw Alan Buchner's Ryan- looks like a mirror
with not much
effort.
2 cans- medium and fine for $44.00 per can plus 7 bucks
shipping
