I've observed that the cable is on most all Coupes, and not just those with dual fork nose gears. I've never been able to find out the origin(authority or document) that put it on. I've also long believed that the presence of the cable has helped to reduce the very high early "nosegear collapse/landing" accident rate.
I also remember hearing Fred say that the steel MLG's were 2 MPH faster than the forged aluminum ones. As he described it their round shape presented an oval shape to the windstream when suspended at 45 degrees(or so), which was a somewhat streamlined shape. Cliff.....
