Well-well-well !! If Fred were only here
now!! I assume that some of you have seen the recent article by Marc Cook
in AOPA PILOT, Aug. '99' concerning the Lancair Columbia 300. I find it
interesting that Marc treats the "innovations" of the design as
"Something new", and I quote: "But what we think most pilots will
discover, is that under the skin of an airplane appearing to be quite unusual,
there are conventional handling qualities backed up by performance heretofore
unseen with fixed landing gear". The speed factor discounted, I know
of about 2500 currently certified aircraft that met the handling criteria of the
Columbia, 50 years ago. And compare at 10-25% of it's cost.

P.S. The Lancair is quite a bird!! Look at the
"Turbine in every cowling"
