Hi, Kelly.
My first plane was a Cessna 150. Flew it for 14 years, then was
"between
airplanes" for five. Yes, the Ercoupe can make a fine first airplane.
 * Price is reasonable. $15-20K for a good one, vs. 20-30K for the 150.
Since the Cessna 150/152's can fill a training mission, they can be
used to make money. We leased ours back the first 4 years I had it.
 * You can train in it. Saves lots of rent money. Already have the
ticket? Better still. No questions about "you learned in a two
   control airplane."
 * Ongoing expenses are not that out of line. $500 should get the
insurance, another $1000 for the annual. These are averages, "your
   milage may vary."
 * Superior support group. This list is only one. See my WWWeb page:
           http://www.hevanet.com/pwood/couphome.htm
   for more.

So go ahead and make that first plane an Ercoupe.
