When I flew out to the Minden, Nevada, national convention, it took three flying days out. One from Iowa to north central Nebraska (I stopped at a fly-in that day, too). One day from Nebraska to southwest Wyoming. Then, finally, one day from Wyoming to Minden, Nevada. I budgeted a week for the return trip to keep weather delays from keeping me from getting back to work on time. During that week, I went northwest from Minden over Crater Lake and the mountains to just south of Portland, Oregon. From there, I flew out a few feet over the Pacific, skirted around Portland and flew up the Columbia River George, then northeast to Coeur de Laine, Idaho. The next leg took me to Kalispel, Montana, where I stayed a couple of days waiting for the weather over the pass to clear. Then it took two days from Kalispel to Iowa City. I was told Coupes couldn't fly in the mountains. With my climb prop taking me up to 12,500 feet, flying at about 1300-1375 lbs, my Coupe did very well. I did learn to fly _EARLY_ in the morning and stop by 10:30 over the high desert. It was the best trip I've ever had by plane. When I want to go to sleep happy, I think back on that trip. If you left coast people get the urge to make the big trip, we'll sure welcome you here in Illinois.
