I have been following the wallow way of flying here recently.  I have been experiencing the same kind of turbulent trips, due to heat, from the valley floor, the temps are now in the 90's during the day, I get some real good thermal. Anyway the attitude nose up down would seem to change radically, I also had trouble setting the trim it seemed very sensitive to small movements suddenly up then down with about 1/8 inch movement of control.  Now, I have always had a little play in the elevator, I decided to have it reduced to zero this week.  The difference in control is amazing, the trim works smoothly, there is little or no pitch change when I enter or leave a thermal, I feel the lift still but no sudden(radical) nose up or down.

I think the play was causing the trim to bounce the surface from one extreme of play to the other which limited my gentle touch on the trim control. Also I think that entering and leaving thermals also bounced the surface about causing the  changes in attitude.

The movement and play on the elevator surface could not have been more that .25 inches.

Is what I have described possible?

The little coupe sure feels a lot different now, it seems to do a little more of what I ask! And the ride seems a little smoother.

I still get thrilled when I fly at 1500' at 3:00pm in the afternoon and I can go from 0 to 400 or 600fpm rise instantly!

One more thing,
I have a 7148 prop on my C85, When I climb at 70 it redlines the engine,  When I level off into level flight if I am not careful the engine will run up to 3000rpm suddenly. Anyone think my Tach is broken?

As Always trying to keep the open side up!
