I just finished dismantling my complete control system in the last year. I replaced many of the rod-end bearings (many were very worn). There are more than a dozen on the plane. I also replaced the two bearings in the aileron bellcrank. I couldnt believe the difference it made. My control system is nice and tight, and it is just a delight. Before I had all sorts of free-play. Those two items account for virtually all of the the free-play in the system. When you have the rods out you should also clean, and repaint them. I did mine with epoxy-primer, now I am good for another 40 years.
