Well, it looks like Spring is finally here! Naturally, with the vastly improved weather, I want to catch up on some maintenance. Here are a few of the things I want to do (some requiring a check off by an AP) If anyone will share their expertise with me it might save me a lot of trouble!
1. I have new donuts and the spacers for the gear. Assuming that the aircraft has been safely raised, and the gear allowed to extend, how is it possible to remove the strut? It looks like the top end is up in the tiny space between the tank and the wing. Will it lose the fluid when I put on the donuts? There is a set screw in the spacer. Is that just so it doesn't slide down, and does it just fit against the top? 2. The tires have lots of tread, but on the sidewalls you can see "crazing". Is this a sign that they must be replaced? 3. The walkways are getting a little threadbare in places. It appears they would be a bear to remove and redo. Can walkway material from a can be painted over them? 4. If any control rods need to be cleaned and painted, how should they be prepared, and what should they be painted with?
