Apologize in advance but I can't resist putting my two bits worth in here. And some Ercoupe 0-200 owners may disagree, but here goes. Don't. If you want better climb performance, use a climb prop on your 75 or 85. It is several thousand dollars cheaper than an 0-200 conversion. You have to change fuel system (pump to electric). If your 75 or 85 is tired, for the same money you can overhaul or top your 75 or 85 and it will be a stronger engine, climb better, cruise faster. Then use a climb prop for good performance. McCauley 7148.
(However, if you bought an engineless Ercoupe, use any engine that you can reasonably get, 0-200's included if that is what you have or the 75's and 85's). Strong, not tired, 75 or 85. Climb prop. Get light ! Fabric wings. Remove all the oblelete radios use one of the great handhelds with an outside antenna, and (in my case) remove uncertified old IFR flight instruments. That old WWII artificial horizon weighs 5 or more lbs. Have you ever held an Eismann mag in your hand? They're really heavy. Exchange your (my) very HEAVY Eismanns for the new Slicks that are several pounds lighter, be sure you aren't "overbatteried," the 25 is a good bit lighter than the 35amp. Wood prop is 11 lbs lighter than metal (metal prop may perform better though). You should get as good performance as any 0-200 conversion if you're a light 75 or 85 and maybe better than some heavy 0-200 conversion Ercoupes. All coupes are weight sensitive. Mine with little fuel, one person, cool day, climbs pretty good. I know a man here at my home airport with an 0-200 conversion Ercoupe; and, suffice to say, it performs no better than the other 3 Ercoupes here. Lots of things are different with the conversion. The 0-200 is propped to produce 90% of the 100hp when installed in the Ercoupe. There has been some discussion of this here on the forum.
