I belong to both the EAA and AOPA. I get similar benefits from both in the form of their magazines--both informative but in different areas, but together they give a broad coverage of GA. I can't build a doghouse either, and I won't ever get into commercial aviation, but I like knowing about both. I find their articles to have more substance than the store bought magazines.
I like the principle behind EAA and the congressional clout of the AOPA. I also find the AOPA web site and the availability of other benefits to be worth the price of membership. I was surprised that EAA was so much into production aircraft, but I find that to be a healthy mix with the experimental aircraft. I don't know that either organization does me more good than the other, although I utilize AOPA more. I'll continue to support both as long as they are actively and successfully supporting GA.
