Thanks Marilyn, an excellent "womans point of view". Gender has nothing
to do with passions, hobbies, loves or whatever you want to call it. Our
previous wing leader out here in Oregon was "Dot Slaton". She saw me in
the air one day several years ago and since my coupe is "very stock" I
don't even have a radio in it so she chased me around for about 30
minutes or so until I landed at Albany and taxied up to the restaurant.
When I pulled into the parking slot and was in the process of shutting
it down she parked right in front of me in the middle of the taxi-way,
jumped out of her coupe and asked me what frequency I was on. I smiled
at this strange woman who (I think) had just said "hi" to me and replied
that I had no frequency as I had no radio. This really set her back as
she had all kinds of "do-dads" in her panel, it looked like a piece of
swiss cheeze that she'd plugged things into in order to fill the holes.
She didn't have enough time left by then to come in and have coffee with
us so I just handed her some money and my calling card and joined the
Oregon wing of EOC right there on the ramp. That was in the late 80's I
think. Several years later I got around to joining EOC in order to
receive "Coupe Capers".
I think Skip is doing a pretty good job of operating such a large group
of people, all around the world. I have enough trouble just finding time
to run a state wing. My hat is off to him! Sure, there might be
someone, somewhere in the country who could do a better job. Then there
is someone else who could probably do a better job than that person
could. BUT, it seems like the ones doing the most complaining aren't
running anything now, so how do they know what a big job it is? I don't
know how long Skip has been running EOC but it sounds like he's been in
there for a long, long time. And I don't know about you, but I don't
notice any signs of "burn-out". If he tends to be a bit "protective"
about his "baby" I, for one, can understand it. As for how much he makes
from the income of it, I don't really care. As long as he keeps doing a
good job, he has my vote. I don't always agree with everything he says
or does, but what makes me more informed about "anything" than he is?
Maybe he's right and I'm the one who's wrong. WOW!!! Could that
possibly be??
I think Tom is doing a great job with his mailing list also, and there
aren't even any charges for it. Hmmmm, I wonder how much HE rakes off
the top of our subscription fees? Oops, I guess no one has thought of
it that way. There are several good home pages out there and I think
they all have their "nitch" and we need them all. Maybe instead of
fighting for the most "control" over the rest of us, they could each
take a certain part of "couping" and do it to the best of their ability.
They could all be linked together (as most of them are now) and have a
"Master Index" so you could go to any other one from whichever one you
happened to get onto first. Oh, you see that probably wouldn't work
because they would all have to stop the power struggle and just 'talk'
to each other and decide which topic they want to excell in. Gee, that
would eliminate all of these "hot discussions" like the one we're having
right now. How would we keep our blood pressure up?
Okay, I'll shut up and get out of here. I didn't mean to get so carried
away on the subject. And people say that 'women talk a lot'. WOW!Just teasing you Marilyn, I know you're a good sport, we've talked
before so I know you can take it as well as hand it out. Right?
