My reading of the FAR's allows a pilot/owner to rebuild/replace the side (and back) windows him/herself. I rebuilt my side windows last fall and the rear windows last month and logged it in the airframe manuals under my pilot license number. I took a sheet metal working course at 7B3 last September and it helped me a great deal.
I bought some new parts from Univair where the old ones were worn and referbished the good parts after disassembling the old windows. Came out great. One warning. The drawings for the windows show the rivets on the edges fairly far in toward the inside of the window. This is necessary to avoid having the rivets in the window track. Do not move these holes closer to the edge for some reason.
