Brian, I am not sure where you live but having been taken by two shade tree AP'S. We, know how you feel.
The Mechianic, that does N6596Q is located on the field here at Salinas, not only works on several coupes each year, but is the proud owner of one of the 3, Harlows!! left flying. Not only is he honest, he will not give you his sig... Unless it is right. He feels as we do there are no parking places up there and he wants it right. He is not expensive and will remove his plane to the ramp, when one flys in for a anual.. No industry, needs this type of people in the trade... We have run into this with Engineers, thru the years that come in tear down a transmitter to the ground. and walk off and refuse to put it back together.... One by One, we have been able to get them out of the business thru the FCC...Not sure if the FAA, would help or not but I sure would call AOPA.. and inquire how to handle this. Unless we have something bad go wrong with the plane it normaly is less then $500.00 to anual N6596Q. We, remove the cowl, her pants, open the cheese holes, take the wing strips off, pull all seats and floor boards and the mechanic only does what he is trained to do, go over the plane.. You are a lot more even tempered than me for I would have his neck...We had a air force pilot out of Kalispell, Montana, at one time that had something much like this happen to his plane..... he was on duty and wife placed plane in for anual .... they saw her coming.... not sure how it was resolved... but the back issues of the EOC.. capers has the story of it. happen about 92 or 93.
