Great, you need it, but personally I don't.
What all of us with master/slave dbase (we're using OpenLDAP 2.3) need
from the absolutely retrograde[1] Courier authlib LDAP basis, is
fallback support. At the moment (Sam knows this well enough) Courier
(vs. Samba, pam_ldap, the OpenLDAP utilities and a whole bunch of other
"programs") only supports a single LDAP server for lookups and dual (as
opposed to multiple filters per record=.
Solve this first, it's crucial. Sam can't be bothered: ("heck, it's been
working well enough for all these years, why change it now? Anyway, I
don't sass the LDAP stuff, someone else, ever, did the LDAP stuff and if
he's croaked, who cares? It works as it is, anyway").
Well, "as it is" it's hampering all of its users.

[1] LDAP client code has to support multiple/fallback (not failover)
servers. Doesn't matter if it's OpenLDAP 2.0 thru 2.3. It has to support
multiple lookup fields (not just two as authlib does). This'll do for
starters.
