I have searched the Courier IMAP archives but have been unable to find
the answer to my question there, or in other online documents.
Here is my setup:
MTA: Postfix 2.1.5-4.2.RHEL4
IMAP: Courier 4.1.1 (authlib 0.58)
Auth: authuserdb
If this is a new install, recommend using authmysql or authldap instead
of authuserdb. These two backends are much more powerful and extendable
to other applications for auth. purposes. If you have an existing LDAP
database you should definitely be using it... (Novell NDS, Microsoft
Active Directory or OpenLDAP maybe?).
Here is my problem:
We are only using virtual mailboxes on the server, and these appear to
be working fine in testing so far, and so users will not have shell
accounts on the system. However we want the users to be able to
change their own passwords for their mail accounts with requiring an
admin to do it for them. I know how to change the user's password
from the command line using 'userdb' and 'userdbpw' but that's not
available to a non-logged in user.
So how can a remote user, accessing a the machine via a virtual user
account via IMAP, change that virtual user account's password?
You can't via IMAP, the IMAP protocol has no concept of changing
passwords. Users will need to either use SqWebmail or you'll need to
write your own custom scripts. If you were using authmysql or authldap
you would have a number of other tools to do it with via the web...
