POP before SMTP was a hack that was never standardized and has long been
obsoleted by SMTP AUTH. I've never even heard of IMAP before SMTP but I'm
guessing it would work in the same way. Courier does not support POP before
SMTP. Use SMTP authorization instead. It's much more secure and
standardized across clients and servers.
