Hi all.

I'm using Courier IMAP for 6 years in my mail servers. It's very stable.
Since last year, I'm looking for implementing IMAP IDLE in my email
system.
During my tests with 2 or 3 accounts under low load, imap idle worked
fine.
So I decided to enable IDLE in my production servers (using libgamin).
That day was a complete disaster. The server with Courier IMAP+IDLE
enabled, kept thousands of connections open with no activity until the
machine froze.
Once I disabled IDLE, the server returned to normal again.

Maybe the culprit isn't Courier IMAP. libgamin? or the libgaminXcourier
relationship?
Courier IMAP it's very stable, but was not made for high performance
(comparing to other imap servers), if I need IMAP idle with Courier I need
to use the old famd(remember the linux 2.4? when we didn't have inotify).
Famd+courier kills the machine performance, and libgamin+courier kills
everything.
All the problems occurred that day with me, are the same problems other
people around have (malloc errors in mail log is just one example).

I'm not here only to criticize this great software. I have one problem.

I'm using Courier-IMAP 4.4.0 in my servers. Now I'm installing a new
server, and if I use CourierIMAP 4.7.0, the user gets this [ALERT] when
authenticates:
Filesystem notification initialization error -- contact your mail
administrator (check for configuration errors with the FAM/Gamin library)

I don't want to use IMAP IDLE with Courier IMAP, I have to remove this
alert from source code if I want to use courier 4.7 without IDLE ?

Thank you.
