Based on your comments, I also changed the value of
/var/qmail/control/defaultdelivery of qmail
      From:  ./Maildir/
      To:  ./

qmail mail delivery and imap INBOX  are now synched. Email is now working!

Ok, now attempt to log in, and the IMAP server should have no issues
opening
a maildir at the above directory, which must be owned by the indicated uid
and gid.
