While Thunderbird is not getting on too well, it seems to be the least bad gui IMAP client out there, especially for Windows.
Specifically: Office Outlook 20xx is notorious for its IMAP bugs and misfeatures, it is particularly incompatible with the way courier uses namespaces with virtual users. Windows Mail/live mail client/Outlook express is pretty lightweight for daily use and I am unsure if it handles IMAP in any sane way. Evolution is long dead upstream. Opera seems so much in turmoil with its shifting of focus and all, anyway I stopped considering them back when their attempt at a "search based" e-mail client tended to mangle mail some years ago. Thunderbird is at least still getting regular updates and has recently had new low level feature additions, such as storing local copies in Maildir rather than mbox format (though that feature was initially buggy for IMAP accounts, at least they are working on it.) Thunderbird also seems to understand some "recent" IMAP features, such as the server indicating which specific folders correspond to the standard main folders (Spam, Inbox, Sent mail etc.), and ways to move mails between folders without going through a download, upload, delete, expunge cycle. I am not sure what other IMAP clients (not web mail systems) are available for Windows desktops.
