At the beginning of maildrop's INSTALL file, there's a note that gives you three options for configuring access permissions. Which option did you pick?
Here's the file permissions for the mux file : drwx--x--- 2 root sasl 140 Apr 5 14:22 saslauthd
I don't know what that is. Whatever this is, it has nothing to do with maildrop.
