ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.3.5 (1.385.2.206 2000/05/27 11:12:27) gcc version 2.96-69 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.0) glibc was also updated to 2.2.4-5. and yes, in fact the 'old' release works fine. but it would be interesting to find out why the latest snapshot comes up with this error.
