I believe that he was suggesting that you use Courier (MTA) for all services, rather than deal with qmail at all. See http://www.courier-mta.org/
Courier's setup is generally very similar to Qmail. One advantage is that the whole setup is done with a common set of libraries, so the implementation is very well integrated. It's also being actively developed, so you can get features like LDAP, SSL and Authenticated SMTP without having to apply a bunch of probably conflicting patches.
