[courier-users] authmysql problem

I have installed courier-imap with authmysql, however, mysql is not being used for authentication.  I can only login as a user with a shell account.   I was under the impression that authdaemond.mysql was suppose to be started if it existed, which it does.   Should I recompile with only authmysql?   Any suggestions would be most helpful.     -Glenn
