Me too.  I've added this capability to authldap, but haven't tested it
in some situations (that aren't relevant to my systems.)  I'll send it to
Sam once I get back to the office.  Maybe he'll approve and add it into
a future release (maybe only after I test it better!)

Either way, I'll send you what I have, if you figure it's relevant.

It queries first to find the bind DN, then authbinds (if LDAP_AUTHBIND),
then searches for the found DN in an attribute of another DN, to confirm
membership.
