Thanks for the reply Sam.  After adding my private network hosts to my DNS server, 
everything works great.  I also added a reverse lookup zone, just to be safe.  As a 
side note, doing this also made other daemons like Samba work smoother (ie-less 
delay).  This was especially noticable on our new Windows XP machines (go figure), 
while the Windows 2000 machines don't seem to be effected either way.

Courier doesn't read the hosts file.
