I've found that the best way to provide different systems with a database
that they will be happy with is to use VIEWs.
For example:
CREATE VIEW courierauth SELECT CAT(uid,"@",domain) as username,
CAT("/path/to/maildirs/",domain,uid) as home from realtable
Email me if you need help with this. My syntax is not exact, check the
documentation.
Note that you can also use views for access control.
