Well, there are. As root I execute the courier-imap script which I have
in my init.d. When i have executed "/etc/init.d/courier-imap start"
serveral processes start.

The processes are couriertcd and logger. The logger utility starts pop3,
pop3-ssl, imapd and imapd-ssl, all of them under uid 0. I have followed
the instruction written on "Bill's Linux Qmail Toaster" to the spot. Is
this normal? And if not, how could I debug it?

I have done that. I even chmoded the entire /var/qmail directory to 777
on the test server and still the same thing happens. The entire session
just dies when I enter the corret username/password.

As a result of that, I deleted everyting. I mean everything
(/var/qmail/*, /var/log/qmail*, /service/*, /usr/lib/courier-imap/*) and
startet all over again. Vpopmail and qmail works perfectly, adding
domains, users, sending email to user are easy as that. But when it
comes to the authentication question it just won't work. I have worked
all day with that question without getting any closer to the answear,
even that I am certain that the answear is so obvious as a wrong
permission on a file or a missing symlink or something.

I am using Linux Mandrake, Prosuite edition. I am using the "paranoid
security" setting, a setting that blocks about everything. If the
courier uses some other files outside the directories I mentioned over,
it is a big posibility that they are just availeble to root. Therefore,
is it some other files/permissions I should check?
