I have been watching this list for a long time and have never posted 
(that I remember), but this makes me think of a situation I was in and 
what I feel is an easy way of doing it.  Block that IP for pop3 at a 
firewall.  Instead of having to modify scripts, it might be easier to do 
this - depending on what OS you are using and how easy it is to 
configure a firewall in that OS.  For FreeBSD, it is very simple and 
took me about 1 hr to make the necessary changes on my server - now if I 
need to block someone, it takes about 30 seconds to add the entry to the 
firewall scripts...
