This probably means that the remote is throttling connections. I see this a lot with hotmail when my mailing list tries to send messages. Basically hotmail will only accept a small number of messages from the same IP within a certain period (for spam protection, I guess). After 15 minutes or so the my mail queue will try again and succeed in getting a few more messages sent. The message in you log says that the message was deferred, and that it will try again later.
